In partnership with Parks Canada and NSCAD University, car(ry)ing is an interdisciplinary group exhibition that investigates the personal and communal acts of carrying and caring that are necessary to reconnect with both physical and cultural landscapes. Over the course of a week-long summer residency, 19 artists navigated the blurry lines between the natural and constructed historical sites of Kejimkujik National Park & National Historical Site, Port Royal, Fort Anne, Fortress of Louisbourg, and Halifax Citadel. “As we travelled across the landscape, we welcomed and exchanged information with people, reflected upon the politics of place, and navigated the complexities of working within governmentally designated and protected sites. reconsiders what it means to support and participate in the creative practices necessary to foster cooperation, compassion, exchange, and reconciliation.”
