NSCAD moving to remote learning

Dr. Aoife, Mac Namara, President of NSCAD University, has declared the need to invoke a new Notice of Restriction and Curriculum Completion Policy in response to the Covid-19 pandemic.

We have determined that in order to safely complete the term, all courses will move to remote or alternative delivery.

Implementing the new Notice of Restriction and Curriculum Completion Policy will help the university continue classes without in-class instruction. While we are still examining what ‘limited access’ to campuses means under the new policy, students should ultimately prepare to not be on site during the notice of restriction period. All of your instructors will provide answers to these four questions:

• What is changing within your course?
• What is remaining the same?
• Where will students find course materials?
• How can students get assistance?

We recognize that there may be practical challenges for some students and we are committed to helping everyone get access to remote learning as best we can. Work continues to address remote learning and alternative delivery options, campus access planning, security of food and supplies, student housing and financial planning. We appreciate your patience and ask that you daily monitor NSCAD bulletins.

All faculty teaching this semester will complete a Notice of Restriction Checklist for each course they are assigned. The checklist outlines how a student will be able to successfully complete the course. Students will receive the outcome of the restriction checklist exercise from their professors no later than 9 a.m., Thursday, March 19.

Any materials and equipment needed by to complete a course through remote learning should be removed from campuses by 7 p.m., Wednesday, March 18. After this point, access to NSCAD campuses will be limited and restricted to essential personnel and authorized people only. If you are a student, faculty, staff, or technician and want access, complete the Campus Access Authorization form at https://forms.nscad.ca/ and we will evaluate. Those wishing to return home ahead of evolving travel restrictions can do so.

Given the exceptionally difficult and stressful impacts of the pandemic, we must all be vigilant with hygiene, sanitation and social distancing practices to protect the well being of vulnerable individuals and the broader community.
