NSCAD’s Exhibition Catalogues Collection dates back to the early 1970s. Consisting primarily of pamphlets accompanying artist’s exhibitions of their work, catalogues are housed in large filing cabinets in the Visual Resources Collection (VRC).
Our Special Collection of rare and artist’s books is located in the Visual Resources Collection (VRC) and contains rare editions of art books and a unique collection of artists’ books made by conceptual artists of the 1970s and 1980s.
A collection of books owned by Donald Cameron Mackay, Principal of NSCAD from 1945 to 1970. Mackay was an artist and historian. His collection consists of books from his personal library, reflecting the interests and concerns of the day.
The Donald Soucy Collection contains books, pamphlets, journals, and textbooks covering 19th and early 20th century materials for teaching art education. Primarily focused on education for the arts in the schools, this collection is a valuable resource for researchers in the history of art education in North America.
Through a generous bequest from Janet Ferguson, the Library has enhanced its holdings in the areas of craft and craft history. Books purchased from the bequest are labelled and housed with other books in the subject area in the General Collection.
Mr. David Burke kindly donated this collection of rare books of mainly European artists and art history in 2008. Together, they provide a detailed look into artists working in a variety of media throughout the ages.
