Description

Using semi porcelain clay, this course introduces the fundamentals of wheel-thrown pottery. Through weekly demonstrations, students will learn the essentials of centering, throwing and trimming. Using the elementary form of the cylinder, students will learn how to throw and trim bowls, cups and vases as well as larger cylindrical forms. Students will also be introduced to handle making and various forms of surface decoration using slips, under glazes and glazes. Through weekly skill building projects and handouts, students will develop an historical and contemporary reference to thrown forms, styles, methods and surface treatments.
