This is a mix of graphic design, expanded/digital media, printmaking, and book arts with a focus on the technical skills required to make books etc. The content of this work will also be discussed and supported, but the main focus is book/booklet construction including designing and printing books.This course will explore a variety of methods of self-publishing for artists books, zines, and other printed matter. Techniques covered will include basic bookbinding, layout design, digital printing, and more while exploring contemporary examples of book-based art. Students can expect to self-publish 2-3 small books or booklets. For the first day, students are asked to supply some content (written or visual) for self-publishing, a bone folder, a bookbinding awl, a metal ruler, and an exacto knife.
